is a creamy, smoky, and tangy appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. All it takes is canned trout tossed with a few ingredients and can easily be prepped ahead.

2.8-ounce
cans of smoked rainbow trout
1/4
cup
sour cream or Greek yogurt
1
large shallot
minced
2
tablespoons
finely chopped fresh dill
plus more for garnish
2
tablespoons
finely chopped scallions
2
tablespoons
finely chopped pickled jalapeños
2
tablespoons
mayonnaise
2
teaspoons
Dijon mustard
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Serve with crackers
vegetables such as carrots, radish, or endive
Instructions
Drain the canned smoked trout, transfer to a medium mixing bowl, and finely mash it with a fork.
Add your sour cream or Greek yogurt, shallots, fresh dill, scallions, jalapeños, mayo, dijon, salt, and pepper.
Toss well until everything is incorporated. Season to taste as needed and transfer to the fridge to chill and let all the flavors combine.
Serve with your favorite dippers, such as crackers and vegetables such as carrots, radish, or endive.
Notes
Use can use a food processor
if you want a smoother dip.
You can use Greek yogurt or sour cream, or even cream cheese and crème fraiche as the
creamy components for this dip
For Storing:
Store any leftovers, or prep ahead and store in an airtight container. Keeps in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
While this recipe uses smoked rainbow trout, you can use any smoked fish variations, such as
smoked salmon, smoked albacore, or smoked tuna.
