Why You’ll Love This Recipe

This recipe is a no-cook, no fuss sandwich that can be easily prepped together for any sort of picnic, or an easy lunch or dinner at home.

  • The main ingredients are baguette, butter, and ham! And that’s all there is to it. We like to add extra’s like butter and arugula, but that is totally optional.
  • It has a lot of texture: You get the creaminess from the brie and butter, and then the crunch from the baguette.
  • This recipe has no cooking required! It’s perfect for not only a fast sandwich, but a great option in the summertime when it’s hot and you don’t want to turn on the stove.

Recipe Ingredients

all the sandwich ingredients you need to make a jambon beurre sandwich.

Baguette: Use the best french baguette you can get your hands on! Sourdough bread slices, or Italian bread works too.

Thin slices of French style ham: such “Jambon de Paris” or “Jambon Blanc” Some salty prosciutto as well would work instead of or in addition to the ham.

Unsalted butter: European-style butter will work best, but anything you have on hand will work. We are using softened butter, unless you like cold chunks of european butter, which I sometimes I do love, too! (salted french butter will work too for this!)

Dijon Mustard: We are layering the butter on one side and dijon on the other side. It brightens up the sandwich, gives it flavor and tang!

Brie cheese: We are using brie cheese in our sandwich, but you can use other cheese such as Comté cheese or gruyere cheese.

Peppery arugula: Absolutely love adding some greens to this sandwich but that is definitely optional!

Tips and Substitutions

  • We like to serve this sandwich with cornichons, but any pickled veggie will be a wonderful pairing!
  • If you want to keep this sweet, you can also spread on fig jam or apricot preserves instead of the mustard.
  • While we are using unsalted butter, feel free to mix and match the flavor profiles with a herby compound butter, or garlic butter.
  • While this is a ham sandwich, you can opt to remove the ham and use turkey if you’d like!

  • Bites: Cornichons are a really special accompaniment to serve alongside this sandwich. They add a salty and crunchy bite!

  • Sides: Serve this sandwich with french fries, like our Herb Parmesan Fries with Lemon Garlic Aioli. You can also use this garlic aioli in place of butter or dijon mustard.
