What Is An Empress Gin Cocktail?

This bright indigo cocktail is a bubbly, sweetened Empress Gin with a bit of lemon juice to round it out. Since we added club soda, we called it Empress Gin Fizz.

This isn’t an ordinary gin cocktail. Since it’s made with Empress Gin, it has floral and herbaceous flavors from butterfly pea blossom. Its bright indigo color and smooth taste set it apart from other types of gin.

What ingredients do you need to make Empress Gin Fizz?

Gin: We recommend using only Empress Gin for this colorful drink.

Lemon Juice: Use a fresh lemon for the citrus flavor from the juice and save the peel to use as a garnish. If you don’t have fresh lemon juice, a bit of lime juice is the perfect substitute. You can also use other citrus, like grapefruit, or even yuzu.

Simple Syrup: This sweetens the cocktail without overpowering it. Use an unflavored simple syrup. Or you can go for a honey or even lavender syrup.

Soda Water: To give the cocktail some bubbles and fizz, add some unflavored soda water. Tonic water and club soda will both work as well. Don’t use something with strong flavors – like ginger beer – because it could overpower the gin.

Egg white: Optional, but feel free to shake an egg white into this cocktail! It will get creamy, and frothy. Just dry shake all ingredients first, then add in your ice, shake again and then pour over in your favorite glass. You can use a couple glass, or a collins glass!

Tips, Tricks and Substitutions

What’s in Empress Gin?

Empress Gin is made with eight organic botanicals that combine to give it a bright indigo hue:

Juniper
Grapefruit Peel
Coriander Seed
Rose Petal
Butterfly Pea Blossom
Ginger Root
Cinnamon Bark

Can you drink Empress gin straight?

Yes, you can drink it on the rocks or neat.

Can you make this drink without a shaker?

In order for the flavors to combine perfectly, we suggest shaking the cocktail. Stirring with a bar spoon can still work, but it won’t give you the same result. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, put two glasses together and shake it in that.

Way too much lemon in this recipe. I had to double the simple and the gin just to get past the lemon and be able to taste the gin
